Insulated Wire Strainer First, fasten all wires at their proper heights on the posts. Strainers should not be installed next to a rise or dip post. Install the strainer at the midpoint of the fence. Use a strainer handle to tighen If the wire is being pulled around several corners, it is best to be at the center of friction. Generally, we recommend 1 tightener per strand for every 2,600’ of fence. Put the wire through the hole in the spool until it is just out the other side. After cranking the spool nearly halfway around, pull the assembly so the wire moderately tightens. The wire should naturally bend over to the opposite side of the spool from the hole. Wind the wire around, being careful to wind on top of the first section of wire. This will take the stress off the tight bend at the hole. Be careful as wire approaches higher tensions. Wear leather gloves, eye protection, and use the proper tightening handle. Strain wires from top to bottom for easier separation of the wires.
